VIDEO: Chaos during Muharram procession in Ujjain, clash between police and crowd

On Saturday night, there was a ruckus during the Moharram procession in Ujjain. It is being told that some people left the fixed route and started taking the procession to the other side, to stop which the police had to use force. The procession was to start from the Imambara and go to the exit intersection via Khajurwali Mosque.

But some people broke the barricade and tried to go towards Abdalpura, while this route was already closed by the police. When the police tried to stop the crowd, people did not listen. When the situation worsened, the police lathicharged. Its video has also surfaced on social media, in which a clash between the police and the crowd can be seen. 2-3 policemen have been injured in this incident.

Superintendent of Police Pradeep Sharma said that a case has been registered against many people including the organizer of the procession, Irfan Khan, in the case. A case has been registered against them under sections 191, 192, 132 and 128 of the Indian Penal Code (BNS). The entire matter is being investigated on the basis of video footage and CCTV. More names are likely to come to light.

The SP said that 650 policemen were deployed for the security of the procession and drones were being used for monitoring. The police had already met the organizers and informed them about the prescribed route, but despite the rules, taking out a procession other than the prescribed route became a cause of controversy.
