Tourist fell from 35 lakh to 6 lakh, government is trying to save tourism in Kashmir: While around 35 lakh tourists visited Kashmir in the year 2024, this number dropped to just 6 lakhs in the first half of 2025. The biggest reason for this is the terrorist attack in Baisaran, Pahalgam on April 22, which badly affected Kashmir’s strongest tourist season in the last 30 years. After this incident, almost 100% of the bookings were cancelled and the tourism industry suffered a major setback.

Both the local government and the Government of India have taken a joint front to deal with this crisis. Travel agent associations from across the country have been invited and a major image building campaign is being carried out to win the confidence of tourists from the country and the world. Apart from this, the safety and beauty of Kashmir is also being promoted again through social media and news media.

Taking a big step, the government organized the annual tourism secretaries conference in Srinagar. To give a clear message of courage and safety, the meeting was earlier scheduled to be held in Pahalgam but due to the Amarnath Yatra it was held in the Convention Centre on the banks of Dal Lake. The conference became a symbol of the government’s commitment and vigilance towards tourism.

Amid the scorching heat in the valley, the trend of local tourists towards places like Pahalgam, Gulmarg and Sonamarg in Kashmir has increased rapidly. Hotel owners have attracted locals by offering special discounts and low fares. This move is not only providing economic relief but has also become an important effort towards bringing Kashmir’s tourism industry back on track.
