A heart-wrenching incident has come to light from Meerut district of Uttar Pradesh, which has raised serious questions on the security system of the city and the sensitivity of the police. A woman from Brahmapuri police station area had a dispute with her husband on Wednesday night, after which she left the house in anger and reached Summer Garden 60 Foota Road on foot.
On the way, the woman met Shahzad, a resident of Fatalehpur, who took her on his bike on the pretext of dropping her to the railway station. But instead of the station, he took the woman to a house in Shaukeen Garden, where he also called his two companions Saddam and Wasim. According to the woman’s allegation, the three together gang-raped her.
On Thursday morning at around 5 am, the accused fled leaving the woman in a distraught state at Noor Nagar Halt in Lisadi Gate. Meanwhile, the woman’s husband reached there searching for her and brought her home. On reaching home, the woman informed about the entire incident, after which the husband reached Lisadi Gate police station with the BJP councilor.
The sub-inspector posted at the police station was accused of misbehaving with the woman’s husband, which angered the BJP councilor and his supporters who created a ruckus in the police station. Seeing the matter escalating, the police took immediate action and registered a case of gang rape against the three accused – Shahzad, Saddam and Wasim. One of these accused has been arrested, while the search for the others is on.
This incident not only raises concerns about women’s safety but also raises questions about the initial response of the police. The administration is expected to conduct an impartial investigation in this case and give strict punishment to the culprits and not show any laxity in providing justice to the victim.
