IRCTC Land-for-Job Scam: Supreme Court gives shock to Lalu Yadav, no stay on trial court proceedings

Former Railway Minister and RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav has got a big setback from the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court has refused to stay the trial court proceedings in the IRCTC Land for Job Scam case. The case is related to allegedly taking land in exchange for jobs in the railways during Lalu Yadav’s tenure as Railway Minister (2004–2009).

According to the CBI investigation, while Lalu Yadav was the Railway Minister, land was transferred from the candidates to the names of their family or associates in exchange for Group D appointments in the West Central Railway Zone located in Jabalpur. An FIR was registered in this case in 2022, in which Lalu Yadav, his wife, two daughters and several unknown government officials are involved.

A bench of Justices M.M. Sundaresh and N. Kotishwar Singh of the Supreme Court said that it would not stay the trial court proceedings. The court directed the Delhi High Court to hear the petition to quash the FIR soon. However, the Supreme Court has exempted Lalu Yadav from appearing in person in the trial court.
